VOLUME II

Linton, Pierson, and Prairie Creek Townships

This book deals with the south most section of Vigo County, Indiana. There are three townships and they are located across the county.

The compilers have copied these old cemetery markers as they read, so, regardless of spelling, correct or incorrect, they read as inscribed.

There are two more volumes to follow this, being Central and Northwest sections of the county. These divisions into four volumes are easier for your research.

Watson Cemetery is located about twenty miles south of Terre Haute, Prairie Creek Township, Vigo County, Indiana, west of State Road 63 on Darwin Ferry Road to Keegan Road then south (left) at two miles. This is a very well kept cemetery and still in use. The land was donated years ago by Scarlett Watson for the burial of his young daughter. Dates in ( ) are calendar configured.

The Thomas Cemetery has gone by all three names listed: However, it is listed on the Markle & Mattox lists and was first known as the Thomas. This cemetery is located on the property of Mr. Austin Turner, RR 26, across the road from the Vigo County Prairie Creek Park on a small hill northwest of the entrance, and directly east of Mr. Richards. There were some 22 head stones in this cemetery seventy years ago, but now there are only 3 headstones to mark the spot which cannot be seen from the road. This information was given by ancestors living in this area. Dates in ( ) are calendar configured.

Lyken Family Cemetery is south of Terre Haute, northwest of Prairie Creek, Vigo County, Indiana, twenty miles. It is on Liston Road (Old Army Road) off State Road 63, north of Highway 246, 1 ½ miles on east side. It is back off the road on a high hill and is in very good condition with a lane leading up to it. There is a marker for a Revolutionary War soldier placed by the WW II Mother’s Club. It reads, “An Unknown Revolutionary War Soldier.” No name or dates. Dates in ( ) are calendar configured.
