VOLUME IV

Fayette and Sugar Creek Townships

The fourth volume of cemeteries in Vigo County, Indiana, is in the northwest section of the county being Fayette and Sugar Creek Townships. There are several old cemeteries, and let it be realized these copied are the stones still in existence, and we have copied them as they appear on the stone (wrong spelling included). There are any number of graves visible and some are hearsay, but, we, the compilers, are printing those we actually see in 1980 - 1981 … no hearsays or guesses.

NOTE:

ROBERTS - Anderson CEMETERY was double listed: Cemetery Book IV incorrectly (pages 105-107)and should be in Cemetery Book I, Lost Creek Township (pages 85-87).

ADKINS Cemetery was misnamed (page 3) - it should be (OLD) BRICK CEMETERY (aka Brick Church Cemetery) - see page 25. ADKINS Cemetery should be in Book 1, Nevins Township.

STULTZ - Easy Town Cemetery, Fayette Township, was not listed - it was destroyed by Peabody Coal Mine and remains moved to Shirley Cemetery, Clinton Township, Vermillion County, IN.

This cemetery is on the Vigo and Vermillion Counties dividing line. It is mostly located in Fayette Township, Vigo County, Indiana (two graves are on the Vermilion side of the fence). There is evidence of, perhaps, a good size cemetery, but it is overgrown, not cared for, and markers are flat on the ground (those that are not broken or missing). Dates in ( ) are calendar configured.

This cemetery is located north of Terre Haute, 1 mile north of New Goshen, Fayette Township, Vigo County, Indiana, between Route 150 and Highway 63, 1 mile west of Trinity and ½ mile south, on Range Line Road at Wilhoit Avenue. It was one of the first cemeteries in Fayette Township: There was a church on this site, now long gone. This cemetery was misnamed in original book IV as ADKINS CEMETERY, page 3. Dates in ( ) are calendar configured.

This cemetery is north of Terre Haute, in Shepardsville, Fayette Township, Vigo County, Indiana, off State Road 63. Take the Shepardsville turnoff and go right (east); go through village and at the dead end, turn right (south) and go about ¼ mile. It is on the right (west) side of the road on Pottsville Street, and is a good size and well kept, old, and still in use. There are several unmarked graves. Dates in ( ) are calendar configured.
