The WVGS is made up of 10 counties, 7 in Indiana and 3 in Illinois. The ‚ÄúResearch Techniques" program will highlight the research tips, resources and genealogical holdings of these three distinct counties - Putnam, Clay and Clark - focusing mainly on the libraries.   The knowledgeable presenters will provide helpful guidance in researching your ancestors in these counties.

Tony Barger has been
working as an archivist for the Putnam County Public Library for almost four years. My current title is Head of Local History and Genealogy. Prior to this position Tony was a graduate student at Indiana University getting his masters in Library Science. While working on his masters at Indiana University he also held positions with the IU archives where he both processed collections and digitized materials for their on-line digital collections.

Pat Wilkinson have been a member of the Clay County Genealogy Society since 1986.  She has served as president, vice-president, and secretary over the years and will be the treasurer in 2017.  Pat have been writing and publishing the 16-page quarterly newsletter for over twenty years.  She has been a member of WVGS since 2009 and attended the Legacy classes. Pat has created a genealogy book of her ancestors using Legacy. Pat received her B.S. and M.S. in English and Library Science from Indiana State University.  She taught in the school system for over 33 years. Besides genealogy Pat enjoys gardening, reading, mushroom hunting, traveling, and spending time with my family.

Dalanne Miller visited the Clark County Genealogical Library in 1993 when her first child was 6 months old. She was just beginning to research her father's family. Her daughter, son and 2nd daughter grew up in the library. After 6 to 7 years of doing personal research she began to help out by taking books home to index. She indexed for several years and began helping out in the library itself at the request of Mrs. Velma Remlinger. In 2006 she stepped away from volunteering to work a full time job. She gave up that job in 2012 and went back to volunteering at the library. As time went on and the oldest volunteers passed away she stepped up and began coming in almost every week to fulfill research requests, retrieve data from the courthouse, make copies, & help visitors to the library. In 2009 her uncle who was the sitting president of the Clark Co Historical Society asked her to find out how many places people were buried within the county. She began while working her full time job with Anderson Township as she also worked alongside the Clark Co Highway Dept. These men, from all over the county, were instrumental in her research. Her cemetery project got the attention of the Highway Superintendent who then sent the men out to mark the locations of these cemeteries with GPS. We now know of 151 burial sites within the county and has rumors of more to be found. During that time she also undertook re-transcribing the Marshall Cemetery. It was first done in 1972-3 but the listings were alphabetized. She not only corrected mistakes found but updated the data and made a new book. The burials are now in order with their lots and sections with maps to locate individual graves.
