“Wabash Valley

Funeral Home History -

Past, Present & Future”

by Gary Greiner

Wednesday,  September 10, 2014

          6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

       VCPL Rooms A, B & C

       Doors open at 6:00 p.m.

In his presentation, Greiner will discuss the history and evolution of his funeral home.  In addition, he will discuss how the use of funeral home records can often be valuable when doing genealogical research.

Funeral home records can be an invaluable tool in identifying useful information that is often not found on the death certificate.  The records may contain a list of the surviving immediate relatives, sometimes the names of grandchildren, in-laws, and other relatives.

Records may also contain information regarding current or former residences, education, church affiliation, military service, membership in clubs, lodges and other organizations.  The records may also include details of the grave location or type of marker as well as the officiating minister,    pallbearers, and even music played at the funeral service.

Gary Greiner has been a licensed Funeral Director since 1991 and is a graduate of Mid America College of Mortuary Science. Gary is a board member of the Vigo County Historical Society, Terre Haute Children's Choir and Twelve Points Greater Northside Association. He is a former board member and Vice President of Community Theatre of Terre Haute, American Cancer Society and former Executive Director of the Miss Indiana Scholarship Program.
